Area Information
OCEAN ISLE BEACH - The Uncrowded Alternative.  Ocean Isle Beach is uniquely located between the high-paced offerings of Myrtle Beach (30 minutes away) and the historic ambiance of the waterfront in Wilmington, NC (45 minutes away). It is a family oriented beach with very little commercial activity. This is a great place to get away and relax.  It also offers a variety of activities for all ages.   This six-mile beach offers a wonderful laidback southern atmosphere. There are numerous restaurants within just a couple miles plus those located on the beach.  Approximately 30 miles to the south is Myrtle Beach with its large amusement parks, shopping malls, live shows for all ages, and the Myrtle Beach Pelicans—the professional team which is part of the Atlanta Braves system. Ocean Isle Beach is part of the South Brunswick Islands, which in 2000, Money Magazine named as one of the top ten most beautiful beaches and best places to vacation.   Ocean Isle—an excellent place for your permanent, second or rental investment home.  Surrounding areas of Sunset and Calabash offer their own ambiance.

Ocean Isle Beach’s atmosphere is much like a laid back resort. There is plenty of space to spread out and pick your location.  There is a wonderful extensive canal system allowing for direct access to the ICW for boating, fishing, watersports, or just pure laid back boat riding.   We have a large fishing pier, deep sea fishing, jet ski and parasailing, ample areas for bike riding,  miniature golf, shops, restaurants, a private airport, and a mainland park facility offering tennis, soccer fields and an amphitheatre.  A free summer concert series draws people from all the neighboring vicinities.  There is a wonderful museum at Ocean Isle Beach...the Museum of Coastal Carolina, featuring exhibits on science and nature, as well as special programs for kids and adults. Ocean Isle Beach has its own beachfront Community Center with offerings throughout the year.

From the brackish backwaters close to the shore, the waters surrounding the southern coast of North Carolina are known as some of the best in the world for sport fishing. Anglers flock to Ocean Isle Beach for all-day fishing excursions and tournaments.   Summer and Fall are both fruitful seasons for fishing, but with temperate water and air temperatures, fishing here is a year-round pastime. Even in the winter the ocean temperatures only dip into the 50’s.  The Gulf Stream currents are less than 40 miles off the coast, the closest of any coast in the country, allowing for numerous species of fish.  Swimming into November is not unusual with ocean temps still in the high 60’s.

Sunset Beach is the southernmost and smallest island in Brunswick County. It is a peaceful place with only a few shops, but offers three miles of stunning wide beaches. The other side of the island is lined with green marshes and peaceful waters, just perfect for canoeing, kayaking and wildlife watching, just like its neighbor, Ocean Isle Beach.

Calabash is considered the “Seafood Capital of the World,” just a short 10 minute drive from Ocean Isle Beach.  Calabash’s collection of seafood restaurants, boutiques, antique shops, and gift shops bring people flocking to enjoy a variety of venues.  Visit the shrimp docks and then enjoy the “Calabash” style of seafood. Calabash offers a view of an undeveloped coastal fishing village and a peaceful waterfront.

One would be amiss not to mention that Ocean Isle Beach is located in an area dubbed as “The GOLF Coast”.  Within a distance of 30 minutes from Ocean Isle Beach there are more than 50 golf courses…there are 19 within a 15-minute drive.  Also, within an hour’s drive from Ocean Isle Beach there are over 100 golf courses from which to choose!!  In fact, the amount of quality courses brings golfers to this area as part of what used to be the Grand Strand area for golfing.  World-class architects like Fred Couples, Arnold Palmer, Dan Maples, Willard Byrd, Reese Jones and Pete Dye have taken advantage of the diverse topography in the area which allows them to blend the seaside terrain with stunning ocean and ICW views. Nearly all of the courses are open to the public as well.  With sub-tropical weather, golfers are lured here year round. Our golf courses are often listed in National golf publications among the best courses.

Ocean Isle Beach offers tremendous advantages over the Northern Outer Banks.  Our water temperature is 10 degrees warmer than Cape Hatteras.  Our beach is a wide and gently sloping beach with no drop-offs—just perfect for children.  Access to the beach from non-oceanfront properties is also convenient with a public access at least every 1000 feet and in many cases only 500 feet…with FREE public parking and FREE beach access.

Ocean Isle Beach is a great place to invest and is often referred to the “best kept secret in the Carolinas.”

This part of Brunswick County and Coastal North Carolina has brought investors and second home buyers not to mention those of us that have chosen to make Ocean Isle Beach our permanent home. There are a wide variety of planned communities, golf course communities, gated communities or just quaint little neighborhoods on the mainland just a very short drive to Ocean Isle Beach.  These all offer a wonderful coastal lifestyle in a wide variety of price ranges.  These is something here in Ocean Isle Beach and its nearby neighbors for any young family, single person, retirement couple—a perfect place to retire, start a business, enjoy a vacation home—or make Ocean Isle Beach your permanent home!

Ocean Isle Beach is truly …The Gem of the Brunswick Islands.
